When u wanna clean clip in hair use shampoo (i would use anti breakage works awesomely! :D) then let it dry (air dry) then straighten it with flat irons or a blow dryer! There u have it! Just clip it back in and brand new!

theyre synthetic hair, meaning plastic not real hair.

so you really cant do anything about them because they dont absorb anything since they dont have a hair cuticle.

you can either trim them or just get new ones.
Treat them like you would do to your hair. Condition them, maybe deep condition or a hot oil treatment.
use a leave in conditioner. preferably, um, sunsilk hydration. it work the best for clip ins
