I was thinking about it for prom, but I was unsure what was better.

Neither is ideal. Clip in hair extensions, are great for events like girls night out or weddings. Weaves are good if you want to cover your hair texture, and are on a budget. Fusion Hair Extensions are going to be your best option. Look into fusion hair extensions, and go to your local professional hair extensions salon for more info.
I suggest you use clip ins, but if it was me I would sew it in. It definitely doesnt hurt and you can take them out whenever you want to.
